I'll just put this here...

Two young children in the US have allegedly been found with guns in their bags in unrelated incidents, as schools returned this week after the American summer break.

On Wednesday, a four-year-old child allegedly arrived at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Corpus Christi with a loaded handgun, prompting the school to be put into lockdown.

An on-duty police officer at the school “quickly took possession” of the alleged firearm and secured the area, district officials said. Police officers and district administrators then attended the school to assist in the lockdown, NBC reports.

“While we do not believe that students and staff were in any kind of imminent danger, as a precaution the campus had increased police presence and maintained a higher level of security at the school until the Corpus Christi Police Department gave us an ‘all clear’ at 10.30am,” the district said in a statement.

Officers also went to the house of the student and a 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with making a firearm accessible to children and abandoning or endangering a child, police said.

Meanwhile on Monday, a seven-year-old child was allegedly found to have a handgun as well as ammunition in their backpack at Cochise Elementary School in Bowie, Arizona, Huff Post reports.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the school and the child’s parents were contacted. The child’s father then reportedly checked on his guns and found a second weapon also missing. This was then allegedly discovered in the school office, where the child allegedly hid it while waiting for authorities to arrive, AFP reports.

“The parents were interviewed and advised that the weapons had been placed in what they believed to be a secure location away from the children after a recent camping trip,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said it was unlikely the child’s parents would face charges but the incident remains under investigation.

The child now faces disciplinary proceedings under laws for dealing with juveniles.

So far this year in the US, there have been at least 181 unintentional shootings by children, resulting in 77 deaths and 115 injuries, according to a count by Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun violence prevention organisation.

There are almost 400 million guns in circulation in the US – more than its population of 329 million.

Earlier this year, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that gun deaths are the number one cause of death for American children and teenagers (up to the age of 19).

Just one month after the findings were released, one of America’s deadliest school shootings took place, when 19 students and two teachers were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Following the incidents this week, police urged people to securely store their firearms, saying guns should be unloaded, trigger locked and locked in a gun safe or pistol box, with ammunition locked separately. Keys should also be placed out of children’s reach.

In Texas, officials said: “We can never underestimate the role that all students, parents, and teachers play in keeping our schools safe and contributing to the overall success.”

... that it's not just a USA problem

Bride Shot In The Head During Wedding Celebration... A young couple get married in Iran. Festivities commence & a friend of the groom starts shooting his “high-powered hunting rifle” as an act of celebration

So much to unpack in that sentence. Firstly - who the FUCK brings a high-powered hunting rifle to a WEDDING!!??!! Secondly, yes I know it's a kind of tradition in some Middle Eastern countries to fire your gun in the air in celebration of... well just about anything, but how do you have such appalling control of the weapon that you manage to shoot the bride in the head?!? How drunk, or stupid, or both, do you have to be...

And how long before something like this happens in the United States of Ammunition... now that you can open carry anywhere you want to? My only advice - save that shit for funerals - at least the main participant is already dead

Ohio is set to enact a law that allows teachers and other staff to be armed with guns in schools once they have completed up to 24 hours of initial training.

No real surprise, given Ohio has a memorable track record of shooting students...

How soon before Texas, Florida & the other GOP-enthralled states follow suit on a policy that's so brazenly reckless it belongs in a comedy routine, not state legislature

A Colorado judge says a man accused of killing 10 people in a supermarket shooting in March is incompetent to stand trial.

'Boulder County District Judge Ingrid Bakke made her ruling during a hearing for Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 22, where it was disclosed that two separate court-ordered psychological evaluations had both concluded that he is mentally unfit.'

'Armed with a legally purchased Ruger AR-556 pistol, Mr Alissa stormed the supermarket and opened fire, prosecutors said.'

'His attorney, Kathryn Herold, said that her client suffers from an undisclosed "serious mental illness".'

But no... no... stringent background checks for gun purchases are an attack on democracy!!

Fire a warning shot...

To the head!!

Can someone explain why you wouldn't shoot at the tyres... or the engine... or why you want to shoot at a car that's going away at all. Can someone also explain why a 'Safety Officer' feels it's absolutely necessary to shoot at a child & her parents???

But no, please explain why America's gun culture obsession is a GOOD thing...

... another stupid person with a gun, doing something stupid

Imagine if this had been in California, where a gun-happy judge has just overturned the state ban on owning 'assault' rifles - the kid would have been shot in the chest half a dozen times & the outcome would be very different

The very name - assault rifle is enough to make you question so many things, not the least being why an ordinary citizen feels the need to own an assault weapon. The excuse that it's for 'self-defence' goes right out the window by definition alone

And as for a guy who thinks it's okay to pull a gun on someone he 'believes' is tailing him, well...

Guns don't kill people. People kill people? Sure, but what do you think they kill them with??!!

Oh America... Why is it always 'Bigger, better, faster... more!!' with you??

The biggest cars (& meal sizes!!), better technology (& hospitality!), faster planes, trains (& automobiles!) & more of... well, just about everything...

Unfortunately, that also applies to your guns. They're bigger, 'better', faster & there are certainly more of them - than anywhere else. It also seems you're determined to apply the maxim to your mass shootings. Every year, they're bigger, faster & more of them ('better' only in the mad minds of the perpetrators - "Gotta get more than the guy at Sandy Hook!!!")

And the rest of the world looks on in horrified bemusement... especially Down Under here...

I really don't know how much worse you want it to get (and it undoubtedly will...) before you come to your collective senses & get your powerful, lunatic, right-wing, paranoid gun club under control. Perhaps you could start by stripping it of its title 'National Rifle Association', which gives it a veneer of respectability it doesn't deserve. I suggest re-naming it 'Mad Fuckers, Duck Hunters & Loonies From The Boonies'
