I'm tired... Only 4 measures today, but one of them was an absolute doozy - took over an hour to measure & as long again to draw. The whole workday took 7 hours, which just doesn't seem to be an efficient use of time, but I didn't stop at all during the day - no lunch, or coffee break, just driving, measuring, drawing...

The beginnings of sunset today, as I left my last measure, in a little enclave that has its own water feature... either made to look like a bushland pool, or Nature has reclaimed it already

Busy day today, looks like a quiet day tomorrow - workwise at least. She doesn't know it yet, but Bella will be bundled into her carrier tomorrow afternoon, for a 4 day stay at our Vet's boarding house, while we have a short trip to & around Canberra

... I hope she hasn't learned to read

Long day... Up early to take L-SP to the bus stop, then back home & some domestic stuff before a Zoom interview with 2 people, which always makes it a bit difficult to 'read' how things are going... so I don't really know how it went

Then out to do my measures, which just didn't flow right today - a lot of back-tracking & non-linear progress, when I prefer to map my day in a sort of loop to finish up somewhere I can do all the drawing. That didn't happen today, so most of the scaling & drawing was done back at home, with 'assistance' from Bella sitting on the plans

Dinner with a tired & hungry L-SP at a pub in Mosman we like for their cheap steaks & great mashed potatoes. Plus they serve Guinness in pints... Any pub that does, will always gets a 5-star review from me!

It's only 9.30pm, but I'm feeling like it could be the end of the day pretty soon

Breakthrough

A funny old day... Up reasonably early & with a slight hangover from a housewarming party we went to last night... the first large-ish gathering of friends & strangers we've been to since, well you know when... & why. Our host is a whiskey buff & knows I'm kind of the same, so was plying me with glasses of his favourites while I was also working my way down a bottle of red wine. Never mix grape & grain they say... but other than a slight headache & moving a bit slowly first thing this morning, I've come through okay

A couple of measures to do, before L-SP & I had our annual 'flu vaccination shots, then found a café that did galettes quite nicely & reasonable soy coffees. A little supermarket shopping, then home & into the music/computer room which is now also my home office, where I once again had cause to curse house designers who have bedrooms going off the hallway at various angles, trying to draw a 1:75 scale plan of a place that was a rectangle on the outside, but inside was a homage to The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari, all the while constantly dissuading Bella from climbing into my lap, or sitting on the rough drawing... or the unfinished plan. She's gone off somewhere now in a huff... or about a minute & a huff (Thanks Groucho!!)

Bed now!

... when I'd rather be working hard... for the money. 1pm & I'm done for the day, save for delivering a couple of plans to one store. That will tie-in with L-SP & I going to the nearby Supa Centa (pronounced Suppa Kenta - well, by me at least. That's how it's spelled right?) to look at ideas for a new coffee table & dining table to match L-SP's new mid-20th Century minimalist aesthetic. I knew she'd been watching too much Grand Designs!!

Haven't been out with the cameras lately - both work (only occasionally!!) & the weather have put a stop to photography. But here's one from the other night, before the storm closed over entirely

Monday... seemed to be a busy day, for only 5 official measures. A lot of Sydney covered & then an evening drawing plans

I'm done already... Can I have another weekend please?

So I ended up with 3 measures today. Yippee, a 50% increase

Tomorrow, I have 9 - which kind of redresses the balance a bit, though 7 of them are units in the same block, a job given to me by the commercial sales rep, because he thinks my plans are better than anyone else's... except his own, of course

The only other notable thing today, was that we picked up an electronic drumkit someone was getting rid of for $100. I somehow doubt it will be of professional standard, but it will certainly be a fun thing to have & a welcome addition to the esoteric instrument collection... though it's more electric, than esoteric, I'll grant you

... who cares...

I think I'm in the same boat as PinkHalen - I really don't give an airborne act of intercourse about the whole Harry/Meghan/British Royal Family soap opera & I wish it would disappear from my newsfeeds. Surely the world has more important things to be concerned about than a facile family drama, albeit one with fancy dress...

Just sent my first invoice to my contracted employer, for the last week's work. Not as many measures as I would have liked, or that I was told would come my way, but I'm prepared to forgive the first week. However, given the start of the new week tomorrow only has 5 measures scheduled for me, instead of the 8-10 I'd prefer, one can only hope it will pick up a bit... or preferably a LOT

Now, bed. It's been a long day

Coffee & a brioche bun for breakfast - a rather civilised way to start the day. Unfortunately, it's a work day

So, not much to report, other than I found out a lot of my work with Pelican Daughters is up on the Soundcloud hosting website. That could make the music at work today rather interesting...?!

Well, another day of sweetness & light at work. There wasn't much on the to-do list today, so I was resigned to being stuck in the office all day. Then... there was stuff to take to the waste disposal centre, stock to pick up & deliver & the possibility of collecting a rug from the north side of town - my side!!

On my travels, I found an old aqueduct constructed in the 1880s that I'd vaguely heard about, but forgotten, until I glimpsed it through trees on the side of the road I was driving along...

Boothtown Aqueduct... hidden away in the suburb of Greystanes. Not a place I visit often... ever, but I think we'll plan a photo day there some time soon

Back at the office after all that, there was a rug that had to be delivered to a suburb that's on my way home. So, at 5pm...

An interview tomorrow, for a step up in the world... Me? No... I'm not nervous at all... no!!

A Belew II by Justin B. on 500px.com
Adrian Belew... guitar hero

Another work day conforming to type - an early start taking care of unfinished business, then nothing much happening in the Showroom during the morning when I'm the only one there, then one of the "Managers" arrives around 11, gets their brunch, gets back around 12, then loads up my schedule for the afternoon with a bunch of appointments & tasks in haphazard order of location & distance - expecting it all done by 3pm so I can then do all of the e-mails they can't be bothered to write, before an unavoidable late delivery in the complete opposite direction to where I live. Today wasn't exactly like that, but close enough... or far enough, considering whereabouts in Sydney I wound up at 5.30pm

Made it through another block of days at work... I don't know when my 'week' starts or finishes any more, so I just look at it in blocks of 2, or 3, or 4, or 5 days - whatever I'm asked to do

And it's probably a bit sad that this is what we've come to... that I no longer take any pleasure, or achievement in the work itself, just go through motions until I can get a day away from the place. I know I should be grateful that I still have a job at all, in these "unprecedented", uncertain times... but I don't feel like that's a situation that should be exploited by changing my weekly schedule on whatever whim occurs to them, making me do whatever menial tasks they feel are beneath them, taking care of all the background admin they're supposed to do, but either can't, or won't, then enduring the comments about performance when I either don't finish their work, or my own, in a 'timely' manner, due to the sheer fucking volume of it that's left to me & the scarcity of time allowed for it...

End of rant...
