I'd heard the name, but never really knew much about her. There's a new play about her... ummm... 'remarkable' later life starting in Sydney this month, but what I want to know is ~ where can I get some recordings of her? It sounds too horrible to resist!!

Date: 2007-10-05 01:43 pm (UTC)I have, on several occasions, performed at the Hollywood & have, on several occasions, seen Doris in action ~ both good & bad. The good is when she does break out the acoustic guitar & mangle old show tunes, in much the way I'd imagine Fo-Je did to the opera. The bad is when Doris interrupted a performance by a singer I know, complaining about the overt political comment & content... & then proceeded to mangle some show-tunes...
I got the feeling it wasn't the first time she'd done it ~ nor would it be the last.
Like Fo-Je, it doesn't seem to matter to Doris that her voice is shot, her playing mediocre at best & that people are more entertained by the spectacle than the talent.
