Florence Foster-Jenkins.

I'd heard the name, but never really knew much about her. There's a new play about her... ummm... 'remarkable' later life starting in Sydney this month, but what I want to know is ~ where can I get some recordings of her? It sounds too horrible to resist!!

OMG Flo-Jo!! So that was her on the front of MX!

I can never bring myself to accept one of those rags but I always end up reading over someone's shoulder or squinting across the aisle in the bus. *lol*

i'm younger than you and i know who flo-jo is? hee.

Pedantic alert!!

Flo-Jo is/was a U.S. athlete...

Surely the woman I'm curious about would be called Fo-Je??!!

Okay... okay, I'm prepared to admit I don't know everything & I'm just pettily pointscoring, but my original question remains ~ Where can I get recordings of this paradigm of the opera??

*lol* Just goes to show what embarrassment ensues when a link is not clicked and the brain zooms off to bizarre places.

Pedant shoots and scores, w000tt!!!

Now that I've read the article, I am totally flashing back to my one and only visit to the Hollywood Hotel pre-refab where Doris (i think that was her name) interrupted the headline act to perform her own singalong on guitar at the bar. Omigooooooooorrrdddd ...

Tell me you witnessed Doris. Perhaps she's our very own Fo-Je. :p

Ah Doris!

I have, on several occasions, performed at the Hollywood & have, on several occasions, seen Doris in action ~ both good & bad. The good is when she does break out the acoustic guitar & mangle old show tunes, in much the way I'd imagine Fo-Je did to the opera. The bad is when Doris interrupted a performance by a singer I know, complaining about the overt political comment & content... & then proceeded to mangle some show-tunes...

I got the feeling it wasn't the first time she'd done it ~ nor would it be the last.

Like Fo-Je, it doesn't seem to matter to Doris that her voice is shot, her playing mediocre at best & that people are more entertained by the spectacle than the talent.

Long may she rain reign...

What a gorgeous story - Glorious sounds like a good title for the play.

You saw, I trust, that one sample (http://www.boston.com/ae/music/clips/021607_jenkins/) was linked at the end of the article, even if their link was guffed?
