We folk here in Sydney might be getting a bit tired of misdirected precipitation, but over in Poland they have bigger problems...

Man survives run-in with falling dog in Poland

A man was bruised but alive yesterday after a Saint Bernard dog thrown out a two-storey window landed on him as he was walking down the street in the southern-Polish city of Sosnowiec.

The 50kg dog was pushed out of the window by its drunken owner on Monday, police said.

"The dog had a soft landing because it fell on a man," said police spokesman Grzegorz Wierzbicki. "The dog escaped with just a few scratches. The man was also more in a psychological state of shock than physically hurt."

The one-year-old dog, named Oskar, was placed in an animal shelter while police investigate its owners for animal abuse.

I know it was only a year old, but that's a pretty small Saint Bernard, really. The ones I've dealt with were in the 80-90kg range - so comparitively, the guy got off lightly.

Meanwhile, what are they letting onto Reuters these days? "A two-storey window"? Sigh...

Yesss... I really should have put (sic) next to that when I copied it.

I also like the description 'bruised but alive'... so much more dramatic than just being 'bruised'.

It must be a slow news day if stories like this get a run & Jessica Rowe falling down makes the front page. That's infinitely more important than the same-old, same-old boring atrocities in the Middle East... Gosh!! I hope her unborn child is okay - that would be just terrible!!!

Nah - it was quite obvious that it was part of the quoted article.

And indeed, that's some quality journalism, right there. Or maybe somewhere else. We're not quite sure. More news in the Evening Edition...

Who's Jessica Rowe when she's at home?

Who's Jessica Rowe when she's at home?

She's the co-host of the Nine network's 'Today' show. Since having been poached from Ten a few months ago, she's been pilloried for her giggly personality, blamed for her show (& network's) plummeting ratings, subjected to rumours of an imminent 'boning' from Nine CEO Eddie Maguire (his term for 'sacking' we're told), announced she's pregnant to her Nine reporter husband, given 'exclusive' interviews to just about every tabloid you can name about how happy she is to be pregnant & her fears that all the stress would harm her unborn child et blah cetera & today made the feature article on the SMH website, simply because she fell down some stairs. Cue lots of publicity & spin about pressures at work, baby fears et blah cetera...

There - aren't you sorry you asked??!!

Now sorry, as such. But bemused by the level of detail with which you've responded... *grin*

I have a mind like a steel trap for trivia & ephemora. I don't even know how this useless stuff gets into my head - let alone my random access memory - I don't read the tabloids & I don't watch television...

Osmosis??
