The Wedding Players

Finally got together with my foil today to sort out the songs for the wedding in 2 weeks. After much prevarication, rescheduling, illness, lassitude & just general slackness, we managed to nut out acoustic & thoroughly unplugged arrangements for all 3 of the requested songs, as well as 3 of our own, in the 4 hours available to us & recorded (extremely) rough versions onto CDs for us to practise to (ha ha) during the week. Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer now has Billy Idol's White Wedding sandwiched into the solo section, the INXS uberballad Never Tear Us Apart now has the main riff of the Stones' Waiting On a Friend as a coda (the father of the groom is a Stones fanatic) & Here Comes The Bride swings to a tasteful 3/4 - or possibly 6/8 (depends how you're counting) beat, with an ad-libbed bridge section. The new resonator guitar will get one hell of a workout during this gig... which is a good thing. Exactly how the bride & groom will feel about the addenda & arrangements is... all part of the fun, really.
Coincidentally & possibly inspirationally, I saw Wedding Crashers last night on DVD. Loved it!!! Best wedding movie ever... The Wedding Singer included...
Managed to double-book myself yesterday & miss the bucks night for the impending nuptials - paintball & a BBQ. Feeling guilty, but unbruised & therefore kind of okay about it.
Beyond all that, I spent the other free parts of the weekend catching up with long-lost friends & watching a DVD of David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) live in 2002 a couple of times & felt very inadequate (musically...) indeed.

Date: 2006-03-07 03:06 am (UTC)My only excuse is that I still haven't received an invitation with all the details (like the date!!!) on it & only found out last week when exactly the damn thing's on.
Look for a further update 'in about a fortnight...'

Date: 2006-03-07 04:05 pm (UTC)Mind you, not having an idea of the date for so long would've made things difficult - things could have got nasty if you'd inadverdently double-booked yourself...

Date: 2006-03-07 07:10 pm (UTC)Although it was a relief to find out it was in the 3rd week, rather than earlier. As noted, I was starting to worry about our lack of preparation. Shouldn't have, though - it turned out to be easier than I thought... These pop songs are a doddle to learn compared to the stuff I (we) write.
However, I'm looking forward to finding something a little more creatively challenging than messing with 80s chart-toppers. This isn't a gig that will appear on the CV!!
