1) What one event from your lifetime would you change if you could, and why?
I often wonder about 'Sliding Doors' moments in my life... usually just after my vindictive Random Access Memory has dredged up another embarrassing moment from my past. If I could change any thing, it would probably be taking a more serious run at being a professional musician in my 20s, when I could probably have afforded it with only a mild chance of starvation or homelessness. I always kept a day-job, which more often than not, got in the way of pursuing opportunities, just so I could pay rent & eat...
2) If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be and how old would your younger self be when they got it? Do you think your younger self would listen?
Don't let your peer group grind you down. Don't care so much about what they think. Being popular is nowhere near as good as being interesting... I could have done with that advice at any time between 9 - 16 years old. Would I have listened? I know my Mother tried to tell me something along those lines back then, but I didn't listen to her. Maybe if someone else (Me, from the Future!!??) told me...
3) If you could have a conversation with the historical figure of your choosing, whom would you pick and why? What would you talk about? (You can't give them advice, though - they'll think it was all a very strange dream!)
For sheer entertainment value, either Spike Milligan, or Groucho Marx... especially Spike, as I know he had many humanitarian causes he believed in passionately. For a D&M, I'd like to talk with Karl Marx (no relation!!), as I'm fascinated by how a perfect socio-political system can be so completely fucked up by the base nature of the human animal
4) There are many things that we've lost from the past -- how to make Roman concrete, countless episodes of Dr. Who, most of the plays about Oedipus, my favorite stuffed animal . . . What one item or secret would you retrieve if you had the power to do so?
The reason(s?) for stone circles... & the pyramids - things found on all continents, but we don't really know what they were for...
5) What would you like to say to people in the future?
"Congratulations... you made it!"... or "Please tell me it gets better!!". Depending on the state of the world, maybe a simple "I'm so sorry!!!"
