The Dream Team of Australian politics is gone!! First Craig Kelly leaves the Liberal Party & says he'll stand as an Independent at the next election - in a seat he only held because the Prime Minister guaranteed it for him, now his fellow sufferer of foot-in-mouth disease George Christensen has announced he's quitting politics because of a lack of progress on 'Conservative' issues Those issues, according to him, would be religious & racial prejudice, coal mines & climate change denial. Apparently the Liberal/National coalition government is not doing enough to make sure ordinary Australians can vilify Muslims, drive V8s & buy waterfront property in central Queensland by 2050

I'm sure some executive at Sky News will offer the boys a slot in their evening line-up of fair, balanced & unbiased commentariat

Fortunately, I can't see that happening in Australia. Despite the bleating & complaining from both left & right sides of politics, we always end up with a government somewhere either just left, or right of the centre, depending on which of the 2 preferred parties gets a turn

Extreme left, or right wing political movements will never attract the numbers to become much of a political force, because despite the faults & failings on either side, most Australians don't want things to change too much on a day-to-day basis. Occasionally a worthy cause will get up & make enough noise to enter the public conscience & force some action eg: Black Lives Matter & the Me Too movements, but as long as the economy trundles along & our Leaders don't so anything too controversial, we're content to sit back & engage in armchair criticism

That said - the price of political apathy is constant vigilance - which is why I get so riled up every now & then...
