Making a life-threatening disease a polarising, socio-political issue will be the USA's downfall. Not listening to, or not believing, medical experts with years of study & experience in epidemiology & preferring the sloganeering of cynical opportunists, is like playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded six-gun.... or worse - with a Colt 45

The vaccine(s) are NOT a magical cure-all, no matter what anyone tells you - & a qualified medical expert certainly wouldn't!! Please guys... put aside the 'them vs us' political partisanship, put down your guns, pick up your masks & endure a little hardship for the greater, eventual good. For a country that espouses the virtues of hard work, you're looking like a bunch of petulant, selfish, lazy... You get the idea

Unfortuately, the so-called leaders of this country and of individual states have not required or mandated the public health measures that are so desperately needed to beat this thing, and you can't rely on the great unwashed masses to voluntarily act in the best interests of public health. For every person like me who has hunkered and kept away from people and not seen my friends for 12 months (and will continue to be extremely careful even after my second dose of vaccine) you have two or three idiots acting like the virus is a hoax or the CDC guidlines are just suggestions that don't apply to them. Don't even get me started on guns. Ugh.

It just seems that the spirit of unity so often espoused in speeches & rallies by everyone in the USA is a utopian dream, not any kind of reality. Perhaps it always was... Certainly, with 50 separate State legislatures that refuse to co-operate with the Federal Government, let alone with each other, there's zero chance of getting any kind of consensus on how to deal with the Pandemic... or a National health care system... or gun reform... & it's at times like this that Washington DC looks like a bunch of squabbling geese, unable to agree on anything & unable to enforce anything that they might agree on

Far from heading towards a single government for the world, which everyone is so afraid of, we are instead fracturing into smaller & smaller self-interested groups, all of whom want their own rules & have no interest in the world at large - either politically, or more worrying, physically...

It's not just the USA - Britain leaving the EU was a big blow & there are even calls here in Australia for the creation of at least 2 more States & Western Australia blustering about seceding & becoming its own, separate country. It's tribalism, basically. At a time when there are so many issues affecting the entire planet as a whole, we are retreating further & further into little like-minded groups who view everyone not with them, as being against them...
