A Birthday To Remember
October 27, 2005

Six people were stabbed during a melee at a one-year-old's birthday party, police in East Hartford, Connecticut, report. It apparently started when a downstairs neighbour went upstairs to complain about the noise.

The injured were taken to Hartford and St Francis hospitals, where they were treated for stab wounds to their faces and necks. All were later released.

Police said they received several calls at about 12.45 on Sunday morning. They arrived at a home shared by two families to find dozens of people running around in a thunderstorm. Some were screaming and bleeding.

Sergeant Ed Perkins said that as he arrived he saw one person on the road beating another with a chair. Officers said they found a knife hidden under the child's birthday cake. Eight people were arrested. Two were treated for injuries at the hospital and released. No children or police officers were injured.

Police detained so many people they ran out of regular handcuffs.

East Hartford's emergency management director found housing at local hotels for at least eight children and 12 adults displaced when the apartment became a crime scene. Police were interviewing witnesses to find out what sparked the brawl.

Got a parking ticket while at work yesterday... came out from work at lunchtime today, to move the car to somewhere else in the 2 hour carpark & found that some bastard had hit the back of it with either another car or a sodding shopping trolley & there are deep scratches that'll be both a bugger & expensive to get out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank god we're moving out of that godforsaken north-western suburban hell & somewhere both closer to (my) home & more civilised... or at least industrialised - the new premises are smack bang in the middle of the Artarmon industrial area. So, at least if Blue Meanie gets hit by anything in Artarmon, it'll most likely be a truck big enough to do a complete job of it...
