I never knew Alan Alda was doing such a 'Groucho' pastiche on MASH until years after the show had finished & I discovered the Marx Brothers via VHS tapes & their books

Looking at MASH re-runs these days, it's pretty obvious... but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

Plus, in the 1950s, Groucho would have been all the rage, thanks to the movies & his blossoming radio & TV appearances... so I suppose it's historically accurate too!

Very good point about the 50s timing.

It was only in the past decade, watching the M.B. movies, that I realized how much of Hawkeye's schtick was paying homage to Groucho.

We actually have one or two M.B. films recorded that I haven't seen yet... need to watch those when Debbie is otherwise occupied!
