Back To The Future

Well, despite my blusterings about not taking a particular job, no matter how precarious the pecuniary situation got, it looks like I'll be taking it after all...
So, it's back to the wonderful world of corporate audio visual sales, with all of its cowboys (usually played by the company owner - & this one's no exception) & indians (the hapless sales staff who do all the dirty work for not much in the way of reward). As I write, I'm waiting for the cowboy - sorry, owner to call me back so we can thrash out the last parts of the package. I wonder how he'll react when I ask him for an extra 5 grand on top of either my salary or car allowance?
Pause for lunch with a friend...
And now - 2 hours later, still no phone call from the ranch manager. Hmmm...
This does not augur well. I've already heard about some less-than-efficient aspects of this particular company, which is the main reason I didn't want to work for them - new marketing plan, or no new marketing plan. Also, given that during the 3 interviews I went to, I helped identify a whole range of target areas they hadn't thought (or heard) of, I don't hold out much in the way of hope for their 'marketing team' either.
And yet, somehow - in retrospect, I had a feeling that I knew I'd end up working for them, despite my best efforts in other interviews in other industries.
It's certainly far from perfect financially as well. Considering I know the market better than his marketers, the base salary I'm being offered is, quite frankly, insufficient given the kind of work I'll have to do. AND they pay monthly on the 15th (not always on time either, apparently) AND they want me to start on the 12th of October, which means my first remuneration won't be until November... blah blah blah... goes off to open bottle of wine...
In related news, an informal, shouted chat in a pub last night could provide me with an 11th hour 'get out of AV free' card at some point in the near future.
