A recording session today with a guy I've been making music with since 1983... on & off. So I loaded up Laura with a bunch of assorted instruments, including the Telecaster, the cigar-box guitar, the effect pedals...
And needn't have bothered, as I didn't use the guitars at all today. We started by looping some samples of things we've recorded on our phones over the last few months, creating a rhythm track, then I used my African slit drum to create some polyrhythms over the loop, then a little melody on my kalimba over the top of all that... then we went for a walk to the bottle shop, discussing the state of the world while dodging traffic. Once we got back & the French Bordeaux was, if not actually flowing, then trickling nicely, we added a couple of other sampled sounds & decided that would do for the day... now it's over to my cohort to do what he does best - tweak sounds, edit the structure & do a few different mixes for us to nitpick at. all of which will take far longer than the time it took to create the sounds themselves, so I'm grateful he has not only the talent, but the temperament for it...
So track 3 of the long-unawaited new album from Pelican Daughters is underway... We also sent some archival photos to the European label who want to release/re-issue/revive some of the recordings we did in the 80s. So all in all, a productive day for a band who have been asleep for quite a while. It's good to be awake!!

Date: 2020-07-18 01:25 pm (UTC)I wrote the bassline to this track, which became quite successful. Did a little drum editing too...
My other bands/projects are a little harder to find...My guitars are all over this song, by a singer I worked with for a while... & on this track from a while ago...
There is an EP of songs I co-wrote & played on from 2001 here...
And that's about it, until the new things I've been working on, are finished & we see what form of release they can get... if any

1. Fishbones & Wishbones 1988
2. Bliss 1994
3. One track: The Reverse Dawn from album: From Here To Tranquility, vol. 6
do you have any relation with this band/ project?
