The lack of smoke on this trip is refreshing.

Indeed!!

There were a few places we passed through with blackened stumps & ground... with fresh greenery coming through on plenty of trees which had scorch marks on the trunks

Upper Ebor Falls lookout had burned down & you couldn't get to the lower section, as that had been burned out, then flooded & washed out... There are no 'in-betweens' in this country!!

It is somehow reassuring how quickly nature greens itself back up after a fire.

Some years ago a grass fire hit a hundred acres or so of the area inside my local dam. I remember how sad it looked at first, this huge blackened area. But within a few weeks you couldn't tell anything had happened.

A forest is a different story. The burned out trees stay on to tell the tale.
