Bird Brain
Jun. 7th, 2020 04:32 pmA photo I've revisited over the years, as my post-processing prowess improves... a seagull chasing moths in the lights of a grandstand. Complete & utter failure as an exercise in tracking a moving object, but I still like it
I took this photo the day (well, night...) I bought my first 'proper' digital SLR camera. L-SP was doing a photography college course & had to do a photo 'essay' telling a story through pictures & had chosen the Sydney Dog Track as her subject. Her dog photos came out fine. Mine, not so much...
Nice as an abstract, maybe, but not exactly 'Photo Essay' material... Panning & tracking is still something I need to keep up my practice in

Date: 2020-06-08 08:00 am (UTC)A couple of years ago, the NSW state government shut the whole industry down, on the grounds of animal cruelty & corruption. There was, of course, an outcry from the trainers & breeders, though not much from the organisation itself, strangely... Anyway, the Government unfortunately didn't check its case well enough & the industry won an appeal & re-started. Since then, there have been repeated cases of substandard tracks, especially in smaller, rural towns & the same old horror stories about breeding the dogs & how they're 'disposed of' once they can't race any more, despite the industry's claims of successfully re-homing old dogs
Another state here has just passed legislation to ban the sport, so we'll see how well their lawyers have done this time...
And yes, they're beautiful dogs. One day, when I live on a property large enough...
