... On New Year's Day - as the traditional Irish ballad goes

And it is quiet 'round here this morning, now that the Millennials next door are sleeping off the effects of drinking the equivalent of their body weights in overpriced alcohol. I don't mind the young guy who lives there, but he has some mates who are loudmouthed, dickhead idiots when they're sober, so you can imagine what they're like once the beers etc start pouring down their necks...

The end of the year came swiftly for us - the last couple of months gathering pace, sweeping us up & careeening towards Christmas et al in a flurry of work stuff, social stuff, more work stuff, lots of driving to, from & back again, animal wrangling, family wrangling, more work stuff... As a traditional Australian worksong goes - 'I'm so tired of waking up tired'

Personally speaking, 2017 wasn't too bad, really - I've certainly had worse years. I've had more notable years too, but at least I don't believe 2017 contained a backward step, which is one of my main criteria for labelling times as success or failure. Just a consolidating year, with no amazing highs, or devastating lows. I turned 50, survived my own birthday party & have continued to feel, act & (some days, at least) look considerably younger than that...
