That's Life In The City

I don't really have a thousand words worth reporting...
Speaking with a friend on Tuesday & my honest answer to "What's been happening?" was "Not much - work, eat, sleep..." Not necessarily in equal proportions, of course... I'm not working much
But seriously - I AM working quite a bit, though not as many hours as L-SP. Trying to eat less... even trying to sleep less, but the encroaching Winter & darkness at 6.30am don't encourage early rises. Thank goodness for my Butcherbirds alarm clock
Speaking of which... I can hear them calling now

Date: 2017-06-29 10:42 am (UTC)Are you guys watching the TV adaptation of American Gods?
As much as I prefer daylight to dark, on those June evenings when I'm trying to get to bed early it's like "Aw cmon, get dark enough so I can sleep already!"

Date: 2017-06-29 11:43 am (UTC)Ian McShane is brilliant - of course. I do think Shadow talks too much & isn't as stoic & quietly accepting of things as the book version, though I understand that might make him a bit dull for TV. I think I like the expanded role given to his (un)dead wife & the world's tallest & angriest leprechaun is a nice touch
Oh... and Gillian Anderson
It's 9.45pm... we've just finished watching an episode of Orange Is The New Black & are pathetically crawling off to bed. If my 30-something self could see me now...

Date: 2017-06-30 10:49 pm (UTC)I still think of Ian McShane as the lovable divvie in Lovejoy.
Speaking of Gillian, did you see the X-Files reboot? That was kinda fun.

Date: 2017-07-01 09:46 pm (UTC)Season 1 ended & they haven't reached House On The Rock yet, so there's plenty of time to catch up when you're ready. It can be a little intense, but being Neil Gaiman, that's always offset with a touch of humour & absurdity - something Bryan Fuller is visually known for too (Pushing Daisies!!)
I liked the most recent X Files... though I was prepared for it to be terrible, it wasn't. Haven't seen the new Twin Peaks yet, but am looking forward to it!

Date: 2017-07-01 10:22 pm (UTC)My dad is the only other USAian I've found who watched it. Back in the early 1990s it was on one of the cable channels, and the last season was shown current (was that 1993?).
I shed tears at the end; I had no idea it was the finale until partway through that last episode. And that ending... "The past is a foreign country, and Lovejoy doesn't live there anymore."
Years later I bought the entire show on DVDs, which turned out to be a crappy bootleg set and barely watchable. I'd love to buy the legitimate collection on disc and watch it in sequence.

Date: 2017-07-01 10:40 pm (UTC)The TV series is where I first saw Ian McShane though & he was perfect for the role. Unfortunately, our ABC were never very good at publicising the series, leading me to miss entire seasons, due to not even knowing it was on, so I'd probably want to start the whole thing from the beginning now. Let me know if you find it!!\

Date: 2017-07-01 11:16 pm (UTC)Google shows the six seasons available individually, or all six on 21 discs in a one-box collection. At least, here in Region 1.
