47 million Americans didn't vote

47 million

That's nearly 2x the population of Australia. I can't get my head around that number... it's like if we had 2 elections here & nobody voted at all - the entire country stayed home... twice

Months & months ago, I was discussing the Trump/Clinton bout with my brother out-law & I said Trump could win because his supporters will turn up to the ballots on the day & vote for him. Everyone else won't believe that such a thing could be allowed to happen, so they won't vote - believing that someone else will stop him

I hate being right, sometimes...

This is why I believed Trump would win - his supporters were much more dedicated to the cause, and more of them would turn up and vote. Democratic supporters have, regrettably, been lazy and operating under the "it's ok, we've got this, I don't need to do anything" attitude, which is why they continue to fail.

It is a tragedy, and now we must reap what has been sown.

Say, you guys want to adopt an American who's down on his luck? ;-)

By all means... come to Australia, where the redneck lunatic fringe exists, but (so far) can't get elected to a position of real power, so just shout at you through the media

I hate the fact that you were right, as well - but at least you can comfort yourself with the fact that you are wise, when so many other people are not!

There is no comfort in being wise, as I know from past experience

Once upon a time, wise men lived alone on the top of remote mountains &, occasionally, people would make the climb to ask for advice, or the meaning of life etc... The top of a remote mountain sounds pretty good right now & that's not just because of the USA election... there are so many things - a lot of them are here in Australia, so I'm not throwing stones...

Whether I'd want my remote mountain to have sewerage, electricity & wi-fi is a debatable point. I'm not sure keeping up with the modern world via the internet is a recipe for wisdom

I'm using the icon appropriate for what's happened.

I didn't know the number of people who didn't vote but apparently it was 46% of the population. Why are people so lax about something so critically important? Maybe some of them think that it doesn't matter who's in office.
Perhaps it's true: there's no cure for stupid.

I haven't yet shaken off the feeling of depression. With Rethuglicans controlling both the House & Senate, there may not be many - if any at all - checks on DT.
