Found under the kookaburra nesting box this morning... the reason why there were strange noises coming from there overnight
All has settled down here, somewhat. My new-ish job keeps me busy & out of the house for most of the day (& parts of the evening), but I have two weeks off over Christmas/New Year, which will mostly be spent looking after this guy
After which, I'll go back to work for a rest !!
Pretty much done with 2015 - not a great year all round:- Losses, traumas, drama. But we're still here, still smiling... sometimes ruefully, sometimes genuinely. 2016 promises to be better, but don't they all??!!

You Aussies have such incredible wildlife.
Did I ever tell you that I rescued a Fairy Penguin? It was in the early 1990s after an oil spill in the waters near ? the south part of Australia, maybe near Tasmania.
Short story even shorter, we were walking on a beach and I spotted it. We took it to a wildlife rescuer who said it looked good but recovery would depend on how much oil it had ingested. I never contacted her again and decided to assume the penguin lived.
Then, there was the time I wrestled with that croc... but that's a story for another day. :)
Yes, we'll soon greet 2016 with it's good cheer for the new year.
(Oh,,, right. We did that for 2015, didn't we?)
**How did the egg get under the box and not in it?

Ha
Short response, I'll assume the penguin lived too
The eggshell was probably tossed out of the nesting box, as space can be a bit cramped in there - three is definitely a crowd!!
