From the jaws of defeat...

The venue was a 5 storey pub in Wynyard (the most central of the central business district in Sydney) & when Elizabeth & I arrived at 7pm, the place was full of the typical after-work drinkers, smokers, talkers & shouters. On the ground floor - no sign of musical-about-to-become-activity. First floor - a swish looking bistro restaurant thing completely empty of people & m.a.t.b. activity. Second floor - a function room... locked & performing no function at the time & you guessed it no sign of m.a.t.b. activity. Couldn't get to the upper floors, the stairs & lift wouldn't let us.

This was starting to look bad. Just how many Occidental pubs are there in Sydney anyway?? When in doubt, ask a barman. So we did. He told us to ask another barman. So we did. Turns out that m.a.t.b. activity wasn't due to happen 'til about 7.30. Could I bring my guitar arsenal in from my illegally-parked-outside car & take it up to the appropriate floor/room please??

To cut a long story short - mainly 'cause I haven't figured out how to do good cuts yet - the P.A. was crap until Bernard & I stepped in with our own mixing desk to save the day, the audience was small but vocal, the other acts ranged from better-than-average to better-stop-me-before-I-kill-this-jerk-for-crimes-against-the-soul. We, of course, were stunning. Everybody said so... gloat, bask, preen...

And we get to do an instrumental variation on the show on Saturday night in Willoughby. Instrumental because Elizabeth flew south for the rest of the winter this morning. We were both very reluctant risers at 6.45am. Me for work, her for the airport. I'll be in Melbourne in a month or so... I've promised to take a 4 day weekend at the end of September. Yee-ha!!!

Now watch the weeks drag.
