A short trip out of town to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney today ~ meeting some new friends for a Photo Safari at Wentworth Falls.

Only, we wound up doing a two-and-a-bit hour hike down & up Empress Falls... a little further west of Wentworth's ones. I'd never been there before & went a little snap-happy, coming home with 180 photos. I must admit the hike climb back up from the bottom pushed me to my limit by about 3/4s of the way... I was a heart-thumping, wheezing wreck by the time I made it back to the carpark.

Views like this will be the enduring memories of the day though...

Dinner with some cousins this evening, but we left relatively early, so we can be up early for work tomorrow & feel every aching muscle & strain from today's efforts.

I hate reaching my limits & feeling my age...

The heart attack / stroke / complete systemic collapse was worth it though for photos like that.

I'm still impressed with what you're doing to your photos - they're good to start with, but I'm still coveting your knowledge of post-processing tricks. Somehow, my "just fiddle around with things and see what happens" never turned out quite as good... *wry smile*

The main trick here was a steady hand* during a longer exposure (about 1 second), which is what gives the falls that 'curtain' effect. If I'd taken my tripod on the climb, I think I'd still be making my way back up...

A little contrasting & that was it for this one.

Trial & error... mostly error... is still the best way to learn this stuff without shelling out hundreds for classes!

*You should see how many of the 180 shots were fuzzy & blurry from an unsteady hand though...

*nod* The steady hand bit I can usually manage - at least if I'm well enough to be walking anywhere near waterfalls! Though I do like my tiny pocket tripod for that - as long as there's something to rest/brace it on, and I remember to use it...
