Well, that was a full weekend.
Friday night, dinner & DVD with the reinstated rock queen of Rose Bay. A late night. Just the therapy for a brain-numbing week.
Saturday, an ungodly early start & then into town for the LOTR exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum. Lotsa costumes, swords, rings, video interview footage with film crew with NZ accents. No cameras or video allowed, but a rather statuesque Goth girl was doing some very nice sketches of certain costumes & accessories. At least she wasn't drawing swords... After a long lunch in Neutral Bay (NEVER go to Maisys cafe - they have to hunt the food down, kill it, skin it, clean it & fillet it before they even think about cooking it. Not the fastest service in the world), off to Mosman to pick up Jaqi - erstwhile singer & brief companion back in the day - now doing a music course with TAFE & wanting to peruse my CD library for a song to cover. Looking forward to hearing what she'll do to Chrissie Amphlett... Dropped her off in Redfern, then over to the rock queen's place for more music, spring cleaning, late dinner & even later DVD (See 'The Actors' - Michael Caine & Dylan Moran from 'Black Books' - very funny. See 'Man On Fire' with Denzel - just a great film), then Rage & an even later night.
Today, back to mine - my turn for housework, then off to my foil's place in Kingsgrove to record new song demos. Thank god for digital recording - the neighbours were destroying their backyard with every noisy electrical gardening implement sold by Bunnings warehouse in the January sales. I shudder to think what would happen if they ever went to an army surplus sale... I love the smell of napalm in the morning... it means I don't have to mow the lawn... ever!! We now have a generous supply of more straightforward 'accessible' songs to scatter amongst the wilfully difficult multi-time signature stuff we tend to write... Quite pleased actually. It means I don't have to find another band to play the simpler stuff I've been coming up with over the last couple of years. It's too hard to find a decent rhythm section these days. Drummers... don't talk to me about drummers...
Brought some work home with me on Friday (okay, Saturday by the time I got home) to finish for Monday, but had an attack of indignant apathy. I refuse to spoil a perfect record of not working weekends. It's been close a couple of times, but I manage to pull through... Might go to work early tomorrow instead.
Couldn't get to Melbourne as planned earlier in the month. I forgot that February is always fiscally tight... I've been billed into near insolvency, but made it through to payday with about $5 to spare
And people tell me I'm worth twice what I'm getting paid... where??!!
