The Downside Of Recovery

Or,
Briefly ~ on Saturday afternoon, whilst whiling away the solitary, quiet hours at Debtor's Prison, I began shivering. Fair enough... Debtor's Prison is a giant prefab concrete warehouse with a corrugated iron roof 30ft above my head & a wind tunnel that blows up the stairwell from the carpark/dock through the showroom... so I thought I was just cold. However, having then camped in front of a fan-assisted gas fireplace for most of the next two hours & failed to stop the shakes, it dawned that this could be something more serious. The visit to a client's home after work to assemble a large & unco-operative table on a south-west balcony at sunset probably didn't help. Indeed, by the time I fumbled with the front door of WaitingManor the world was, if not spinning, then at least breaking loose from its moorings.
Not having eaten for nearly 24 hours by then might have had something to do with it too, but normally that doesn't bother me, I've gone for longer than that with no real trouble. Anyway, food & warmth were equal priorities. On with the oven & heater. On with the sheepskin boots, big overcoat & a cupboard-clearing dinner. Down with lots of water & out with the cork of a decent bottle of red wine ~ against both medical & friendly advice, but I really wanted one... On with the VCR & the taped backlog of Dexter & Boston Legal, with an intermission for RockWiz & a Jackie Chan movie on SBS.
By the time Jackie was exacting revenge on the criminal gang in New Police Story the world had dropped anchor again, I had stopped shivering & was feeling very warm indeed. Still a bit woozy though, so after the last of both Boston Legal & the red wine, I retired...
... to be awoken by an SMS from the recently AWOL Alpha-est of Males, requiring my presence at Prison to let him in, as he'd forgotten his keys. Surprised that I was feeling better than expected, if not as rested, I ended up staying at work for a couple of hours before extricating myself to my local café for what should have been breakfast, but was now lunch. Just as I was settling the bill, the AoM called with what he thought was good news, but I recognised as a bud of trouble to be nipped. So, back to Prison for another hour & a bit.
Later, back at the 'Manor, I Canoned, Nortoned, Photoshopped & uploaded ~ of which I posted some results earlier. A freezer & cupboard-clearing Indian based dinner, more water,a not-as-decent bottle of red wine & a viewing of Thank You For Smoking later, here I am, feeling pretty much back to normal, but unable to sleep.
Life's Little Mystery #65,413,229 is: 'What pathetic kind of fever gives up the ghost after only a few hours?' #65,413,230 is: 'The anti-viral capabilities of a glacially-slow metabolism fuelled by caffeine, alcohol & irregular meals.' Related to both is what contributing role(s?) does Debtor's Prison play in all this?
I have a holiday planned for a fortnight from now. I'm afraid to take it, in case it upsets my incredibly well-balanced lifestyle & I get really sick....!!
