"...it's the most anticlimactic time of the year..."

Christmas comes but once a year... & then it's over. Leaving you with a sense of... what exactly. Your own birthday at least leaves an impression - even if it's only of one's mortality, but Christ's supposed birthday invariably leaves me with no real feelings or emotions at all, come the day after Boxing Day.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... there's no sense of relief that it's all over for another year, or anything overly cynical like that, but neither is there a sense of any fulfillment or accomplishment, or anything to justify the amount of hype thrown at you from every direction since the beginning of November.

I had a great couple of days, incidentally... Christmas Day with Liz's uncle & his family, who I'd met at his 70th b'day a month or so ago (which finished with him & I singing karaoke in a trendy North Sydney bar at 2.30am. May I be like him at 70!!). He lives in Stanwell Park, just north of Wollongong & it's a nice, picturesque journey (once you get out of Sydney's southern suburbs... definitely NOT picturesque). On Boxing Day my family's clan gathering was held here in Balgowlah for the first time in about 10 years. The family is starting to increase almost exponentially - with cousins & uncles reproducing at an alarming rate... 3 new ones this year, 2 more already for next... God help whoever hosts the next one...

And... okay, some of the presents were pretty cool too... but some were like the ones described by Lederhosen from his grandmother-in-law. Life is like a box of bath salts - a tasteless, thoughtless gift that nobody really wants. Especially if you don't have a bath...

But I'm REALLY looking forward to Return Of The King with 45 more minutes included!!!

If only my new subwoofer had arrived at work in time for my holiday... whimper.

I did something today which I haven't been brave enough to do for years. I went to the local mega-mall on the opening day of the post-Christmas sales. A pity that only one of the things I bought was 'on sale', but then, for a salesman of 20 years standing, my sales resistance has always been pretty low...

New Year is the time that always leaves a strong impression on me. Here it comes...
