Pop Culture vs Politics...

While Mr Obama's personal popularity may not be high by historical comparison, he can take some comfort from the fact that it is higher than that of Republicans.

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll published last week found just 26 per cent of those polled had a positive view of the party, compared with 44 per cent for the Democratic Party.

Perhaps both parties should be concerned that a Public Policy Polling poll published earlier this month found Congress was less popular than colonoscopies, lice, root canals and being stuck in traffic.

The same poll found Congress was more popular than Lindsay Lohan and the Kardashians

Who comes up with these questions??!!

Finally saw the Hobbit in 3D tonight. Not, apparently, the whizbang more-frames-per-second-than-your-brain-can-handle 3D, just the normal one... which was fine by me

Okay, yes it's a long film & yes there are bits in it that weren't in the book, but I enjoyed Radagast's expanded role (& nice to see Sylvester McCoy again). Barry Humphries' turn as the Goblin King was... odd. I wonder if he had it in his contract that his voice be recognisable, he certainly didn't sound like a goblin, let alone a King... My only complaint about the extra stuff was when Saruman turns up ~ Because LOTR came first, we now can't see him as anything but a villain, even though he hadn't turned at this point in the saga. It was nice to see a little continuity in his campaign against drugs in Middle Earth, this time complaining about Radagast's taste for mushrooms. And also nice to see that you can't separate Holmes from Watson, no matter where they are... And those bloody eagles... why couldn't they take the dwarves just that little bit further all the way to the Lonely Mountain, instead of dropping them off a hundred miles short...

All in all though, not bad, Mr Jackson... not bad
