Waiting For The Crash & Burn
Jan. 9th, 2008 05:08 pmSo, I've been awake since about 8.30am Monday, having completely failed to sleep at all the last 2 nights.
I must be getting old ~ After the first night's failure, I made it through most of the working day yesterday until about 3pm when I pulled the plug, taught Junior how to do end-of-day procedures, then showed him again... & again... & again, until I eventually wrote the whole process out for him in large, idiot-friendly letters on an A4 page before finally pointing OBluV8 homewards to do... not very much, actually.
I caught up with some friends via phone for the first time this year, made some near-future plans, finished a few days worth of last week's dinner leftovers, watched most of Season 4 of Scrubs, enjoyed a bottle of red, enjoyed about half of another before yawning optimistically & heading bedwards.
But no. Not a wink, not a doze, not an extended blink...
Mixed blessing. I decided I wouldn't even bother with work today, so after a flurry of phone calls to the Hobbit & Junior vaguely around 9am, I returned to horizontal, finished an Edmund Crispin detective novel, started another, came to the computer room to read the paper & e-mails, made toast, read some more Crispin, checked my favourite websites, checked my e-mail... Take all of this, loop it & continue for the last 8 hours. That's been my day.
Now I'm waiting for the imminent arrival of an old guitar colleague who's been willingly roped into the acoustic gig tomorrow night, for a last minute rehearsal/refresher session. Looking at the set-list, there's one song on there I vaguely remember going through at least 3 times last Saturday night, but now can't remember for the life of me how it goes... Oh oh...
It'll be alright on the night.
