To paraphrase Neil Young - "Let's Impale The President"

Some of you may recognise the accompanying photo as the one pranksters Photoshopped onto the flooded streets of New Orleans last year.

To be fair - given the track record of the King Of The 1000 Yard Stare, catching the fish probably has been his presidential highlight... that & the golf drive he made the media watch during his first year in the Job.

Alien III

Further to Lederhosen's post a while back.

I don't own the Director's Cut of Alien III, so I don't know what extra bits they've added to the story... & in fact, it doesn't matter, as I think the story is fine & makes sense as it is. Well, as far as these stories go, of course.

I've owned the DVD for a while now - & the video before that, but it's always been the least watched of the series. Like the 2 times I saw it at the cinema, I usually only tend to drag it out when I'm not entirely sober. My usual comment on the film, when asked for my impression, is "Orange... very orange."

Tonight, however, I watched it sober for the first time in, probably, a long time. I still like the story - the idea of getting back to just one Alien after the armies of 'em in number II, appeals. I like the characters - even though I can never remember the name of the one played by Paul McGann & can't seem to recognise him during the film... even sober, it would seem.

My problem is the absolutely woeful SFX.

In such an orange film, why does the CG Alien have to appear so luridly green & stilted in movement?? One would expect an improvement in CGI between the second & third films, given the intervening years & that such CGI would be cheaper than when James Cameron made what is arguably the best of the series. So, I must ask - more than 10 years after the fact - Where did all the money go???!!! Apart from Sigourney, the biggest name on the list, at the time, was Charles Dance!!! Not exactly box-office dynamite & looks far too much like Bob Peck (Edge Of Darkness) for my liking. I've never heard of the director before... or since... so somebody must have spent a lot of money somewhere... My guess is either in Las Vegas, or the south of France.

Presumably, the same person who arranged for the casting of Wynona F@#*ing Ryder in the fourth film... but don't get me started...

Later... And then, I found this IQ test... via SandyPaw. Even later... Like her, my actual score & the picture I get are 2 different things. Last night I had a smart-looking rabbit saying I had a score of 152. Today, I have a dopey-looking bunny giving me a score of 85. Tomorrow... who knows??
