I had the extreme misfortune to see the last half hour or so of Kerry Packer's memorial service on television last night...

I'm revolted & horrified on so many levels, I don't know where to begin. I'll begin by saying it wasn't my fault that I saw it... okay, I could have left the room... the building... the city (soon, soon), but it would have been... problematic, shall we say.

From the polished stockmarket report-style eulogy delivered by the son, to the sugar-drenched 'musical' (for want of another word) 'tribute' (definitely wanting another word!!), by that annoying bearded Midday Show 'maestro' (where's my dictionary of antonyms, dammit!!), to the sickening rendition of Waltzing Matilda by some toothy little 10 year old in a tux, to the nauseating recollections of Alan Jones about his mate 'KP'... to the egress of the celebrity elite to the strains (& that's the right word) of 'The Gambler' by Kenny Rogers.

All narrated in reverential & sycophantic tones by 'Australia's Friend' Ray Martin & all paid for by you & I the taxpayer, so that it could be brought to you commercial-free on Channel Nine without them losing any revenue... somehow...

More on the weekend later, I'm off to the bathroom... again.
