The Consequences Of Carelessness

And carlessness for that matter.
OBluV8 still sits where it refused to move from on Friday evening ~ 10 metres from theGates Of Hell my workplace entry & about 15 metres from my semi-tame mechanic who, it seems, only works on a Saturday if he feels like it & yesterday wasn't one of those days.
Fortunately, one of the few benefits of being ridiculously over-qualified for my job & doing the stellar work that I do, is that the "MD"/CN & the Hobbit have belatedly started to value me (just not monetarily) & so I've been taking the company ute home & away for the last few days... all over this large town.
The ute is a Ford, same as OBluV8 & therefore has the same kind of keys & keyring. My housekeys are on OBluV8's keyring, so I've had to keep them on me, or in the ute. Arriving home last night after an evening with various RokChikz, I gathered my goods & chattels from the passenger seat, grabbed my keys, got out of the ute & tried to lock it. The remote locking wouldn't work, so I put the key in the doorlock & turned it ~ locking the ute.
Straight away I realised I'd used my keys to do it & the ute keys were still in the ignition. Well... if my keys could lock the thing, surely they'd unlock it... right?
Wrong. Given that these 'security keys' are usually cut & coded individually for each Ford, don't ask me how the key to OBluV8 worked (albeit only once!) in the lock for the ute..!?
So, this morning, after finding out the bosses are too cheap to be in the NRMA, I got the go-ahead from the Hobbit to smash a window. I picked the small quarter-window on the driver's side, grabbed my trusty rubber mallet & released some frustrations, scattering safety glass over the seats & driveway.
Now here, at work, I guess I'll find out tomorrow whether management will want me to pay for the window or not... the same semi-tame mechanic looks after the ute as well.
Otherwise, it's a pretty boring, slightly raining day. Can I go home now?
