Following on from various conversations & the stirred thoughts resulting from them over the last few days ~ I think my first ever career crisis has arrived.

I've been in sales-related day-jobs for the last 23 years & with the (hopefully) imminent departure from this latest glorified-but-undignified-retail one, I don't think I want another 'selling' job again. Ever. A recruiter rang me yesterday to arrange an interview with an AV company looking for a Rep & while I made enthusiastic noises to him about it, my heart just didn't lift at the prospect of going back to that field & going through the same old motions. The only job like that I'd be interested in doing is the music company one which I know I won't come within coo-ee of getting... So that's alright, really.

It just raises the question of what else can I do?? I'm sure that over the last 20-odd years I've picked up some peripheral skills that could translate to other fields & responsibilities, but it's hard to think of what they are & how to apply them when you've been so used to one thing for so long & it's hard to treat them as assets when you've always thought of them as simple tools of the trade.

As one door closes, or is closed, another kindasorta opens ~ or is, at least, ajar. My Foil rang this morning with news that a position has come up in his Public Service department that, by the sounds of things, I could do without taxing the brain too much, for a reasonable fee. He's forwarding the relevant info for me to peruse later. This followed on from a talk with a valued friend on Monday where she listed '5 Good Or Great Reasons You Should Join The Public Service'. And they were/are... Funny how life lines up sometimes. Then again, my Foil has been waxing rhapsodical about the PS for years, it's just now that 2 people are doing it, it's a majority opinion & who am I to argue?

Having previously stated I'm not a religious person, here's a biblical reference for you... It may indeed be hard to kick against the goads, but I'm willing to give it a try ~ even if the road I'm on doesn't go anywhere near Damascus.

Now go forth & Google all that!!

I had a fine time in Education down here, so you never know - being a public servant might actually work.

Good luck...
