Strike Like Lightning
Nov. 6th, 2007 09:47 amAs SarinG could tell you, there was a thunderstorm in my neighbourhood on Saturday night. What made this one memorable was the huge FLASH!!! & simultaneous BOOOM!!! at about 10.30pm which tripped the protector switch in the fusebox, triggered my car alarm & scared the crap out of us.
The following morning, we discovered a tree outside had been struck & had left most of its bark & shards of wood over about a 25m radius, including on top of OBluV8, which explained the alarm going off. There's a substantial crack in the main trunk of the tree which makes it appear likely that soon I'll have a better view of the NYE fireworks than previous years.
The downside is that the EMP unleashed by the lightning fried the ethernet port on my modem (as suspected by Reynardo & confirmed by Obtuse) so I've been sans internet & e-mail until today, when I'm taking full advantage of a relatively quiet morning to read & answer mail & see what you lot have been up to.
Other than the lightning, it was a quiet night in at WaitingManor on Saturday ~ until the early morning hours when the curry I'd enjoyed that night unleashed its revenge & blew me out of bed & into solitary confinement in the spare room.
Breakfast at a new favourite cafe in Rozelle on Sunday, followed by a detour to Newtown where SG replaced my late, lamented chilli plant & began my herb garden with a sweet basil brush. I, being the green-thumb I'm really not, headed for the CD shop to get Annie Lennox's new album, before driving solo back to the 'Manor for yet another reduced rehearsal with Hands & Feet. More refining, rearranging, scratching of heads, rearranging & rough recording.
Sunday evening & a fair portion of early Monday morning were spent with the LLF at ChezMaelefic listening to music, fending off the hyperdog & playing 'Cheat' ~ a card game that really lets you know who your friends are...
An interview with a recruitment agency yesterday, where the MD of the company pronounced me a 'possible' candidate for working there. He's told me to research the recruitment industry (high pressure, higher staff turnover, formulaic & possibly only satisfying if you're a rampant capitalist goat-herder) & give him a call in a few days if I'm interested. whereupon there'd be another interview, then if that goes well, another interview with him, before I'd be accepted in the ranks. All this is after the long phone interview I've already had & the online 'personality test' I've already done ~ which indicated I'd be a good recruiter, funnily enough...
Brunch at the local, then an afternoon at home doing small domestic duties & taking 5 (!!) calls from the Hobbit at work, all trivial, none urgent ~ except for the last one at 8pm telling me he'd forgotten to switch on the alarm & wanted me to go down there & do it, as he was halfway home to whichever far-western suburb he lives in. This made up for Saturday afternoon, when I'd forgotten to switch the damned thing on & he'd called to tell me.
So now, at work, it's the rain, the wind, Fripp & Eno & me...
