I should be tired.

No... scratch that ~ I AM tired. I should be sleeping. But my inner sleep nazi has decided there's to be none for me. "Come back... 15 hours!!"

Thus, I'm pottering around ~ drifting between the computer, the phone, Good Omens & the occasional return to bed with closed eyes, but nothing seems to be sticking. If I'm restless already, then perhaps coffee & breakfast isn't such a good idea right now...

Had dinner on Friday night with the visiting BellMan, as well as UnknownB, SarinG & some young friends at a great Spanish restaurant SG found in Surry Hills. I can thoroughly recommend almost everything about El Bulli, except their taste in background noise music & their speaker placement (right over our table). Thence to the poolhall/nightclub/bar where SG spends her small hours reading the glossy gossip rags & tolerating the young, hip & intoxicated for a reasonable income. Then home by... sometime after midnight... ish.

Saturday night was one of those nights where I had 3 different engagements in 3 different locations. First up was a revolving door rehearsal with the rhythm section of the Ana Key band for the upcoming open-air gig at Darling Harbour. Revolving door, because at about the time the harmonica player turned up, I had to leave for my next appointment. Progress was made, but I'm relieved there are still a couple of weeks to go...

Thence to the Excelsior pub in Surry Hills to catch up with a long-lost friend & see Steve Kilbey of The Church do a solo gig. Only to find that there were about a dozen others with the LLF & we were off to the Woollahra Hotel in... have a guess. All bar the LLF (non-drinker) & I (rehearsing, driving, not drinking... much) were well on their way to Uninhibited Indiscretion territory, which is usually followed by a visit to Thumping Hangoverland the following day. I left when the party became a pub crawl threatening to descend on the Paddington Inn in... well go on, have a guess.

Having made a vague kind of plan to pick up Maelefic from UnknownB's Facebook theme Halloween costume party, I next headed for Coogee where, after announcing myself to be a virus that attacks shareware applications, I entered to find the party still, if not going strong, then at least determinedly on its feet. In the company of SG, M'fic, UnknownB, BellMan, Roslyn & others, there was computer karaoke, guitar singalongs & a game of mysterious origin whereby you make up 4 words, drop them in a hat, pass it 'round & you have 5 seconds to invent a definition for the word. Kind of like the game I play by opening the biggest dictionary you can find, picking the most obscure word on the page & inventing 2 false definitions as well as providing the real one. Then people guess which one's true. The invented words on Saturday night were mostly bastardised sexual, scatalogical or profane in origin, but then ~ it was well after midnight by that stage & if you're that easily offended, you should be in bed.

With the party gradually realising that it was, by now, an hour later than all the clocks were showing (Daylight Saving kicked in at 2am), I loaded OBLuV8 with assorted revellers & ferried them to either bed or pub, depending on preference. M'fic & I headed for WaitingManor in the about-to-be-becoming light of dawn & had a few hours sleep before a combination of bird noises, children noises & Black Sabbath forced us to greet the not-so-new day.

Breakfast at the local, 2 coffees, then back to the 'Manor to meet up with my Foil for yet another Hands & Feet trio formation rehearsal. This time the focus was on vocal melodies & lyrics, which put M'fic under pressure the microscope the gun the spotlight. Good progress, encouraging direction. An afternoon well spent.

After a viewing of Crowded House ~ Farewell To The World on DVD, my LLF rang, suggesting a light dinner & drinks at the Watsons Bay Hotel in... well, you know. Without the previous night's party of 12, but with M'fic in tow, a peaceful end to the official weekend was had... for me, anyway. I got to see for the first time how people react to meeting M'fic &, as I later described it to SG, it's with a kind of initial amused/bemused wariness before being overwhelmed with the scattergun enthusiasms, questionable jokes mixed with deceptively strong & considered opinions etc... It was fun to sit more or less on the sideline & watch.

Following a post-prandial meander along the bay, I returned M'fic to his abode, came home & promptly failed to go to sleep.

Which is about where you lot came in.

Now, an undecided, kind of fuzzy day. Outside the sun is shining, the wind is blowing, the dogs are barking, my fridge & cupboards are devoid of desirable sustenance ~ it must be getting close to activity decision time, but bed & Good Omens continue to beckon enticingly...

Aw nuts. I saw the notice in his blog about the Excelsior gig and was wondering how it was.

But Good Omens is certainly good for whatever ails ya. :p
