Prompted by a conversation with my Foil last night...

Why is it that you never look the same in a photo as you do in a mirror ~ other than the obvious reverse image thing?

For example: I hate having my picture taken (& will go to extraordinary & occasionally antisocial lengths to avoid being photographed) because I don't like the way I look in them, yet I'm quite comfortable looking in a mirror.

I've become convinced that the camera adds weight to you. I look in a mirror & my face is a lot thinner than it appears in photos. This may have something to do with the imprecise shape or straightness of the glass, but surely camera lenses can be just as varied. Why should I trust one more than the other?

So, is it physics? Metaphysics? Paranoia? Vanity?
