25 Minutes In Peking

Well, THAT was a gig best forgotten.
All it did was remind me why I mostly record soundtracks these days ~ you can control what's being heard a lot better than when you rely on some gormless nerk to do nothing but stand in front of the mixing desk & shrug while your sound goes to hell & beyond.
There was enough tension in the air at the venue already, thanks to unwelcome company, without having to deal with the crap that comes from a failed gig. The minute I'd finished packing my gear off stage, I let my supporters (thanks again to SarinG, UnknownB et al) know that I couldn't leave the venue fast enough. So we did...
We decamped to the Old Fitzroy pub in Woolloomooloo for a few deserved drinks, before attending to work commitments at the Q Bar in Darlinghurst. I haven't been there in years & the only thing that's changed in the interim is the colour of the walls... & I think there are less pool tables.
The cloak room girl is pretty cute though...

Date: 2006-11-13 08:17 am (UTC)Sure, JoshuaLee may not be a great band - & the singer's voice is... an acquired taste, but it irritates the hell out of me that our return to live duty after 2 years off, following about 20 hours of rehearsal & a lot of last-minute running around on Saturday to ensure smooth running, was brought undone by an uncaring 3rd party - the only element we couldn't have control over.
This is why I now work in studios - I'm reluctant to hand my unfinished work over to an outside party because I don't trust them to do it justice. This latest travesty of a gig was the perfect example of good work ruined at the finish by an outside source. It's not like it was 'great art' we were doing, but it deserved better treatment nonetheless.
As I find myself saying more & more often... Hell is other people.
But enough about me, let's talk about you...
What do you think about me?What's been happening with you & my favourite city??
