Had a phone call from an erstwhile colleague whilst at work this afternoon, asking various questions about when I'd be leaving the current job & making various comments about the Ranch. When I realised where his comments & questions were leading, I took the (mobile) phone outside to the loading dock, the better to answer & opine openly.
However, a couple of weeks back, there was movement at our Station, the Sales Team (me!!) & the Ranch Manager had our desks & office space moved out the back of the building, near the loading dock. Don't ask me what, how, or why...
After a few choice words about my current employment & using an industry nickname for the RM, then ending the conversation back inside the Ranch, it occurred to me that I may not have been far enough away from prying ears - RM was at his desk at the time. I don't talk loudly on the phone, I was walking around a bit & no looks or glances were directed my way prior to my 5.15pm departure, but an uneasy feeling lingers.
By this time tomorrow, I'll no doubt know if the truth hurts... me. Of course, it could just be common or garden variety paranoia, brought on by an as yet undetermined near-future.
But ~ comme ils disent... Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
By the way... my entries seem to be getting posted with the USA time indicated. Anyone know how to bring me back into line with AEST?
