Sorry for the radio silence over the last few months... I've fallen out of love with talking about myself & my life in general

However, I'll never get tired of talking about things like this... the relics of a bygone era who continue to poison the education & opinions of the modern world

For the-god-of-your-choice's sake... or for no god's sake at all if you prefer, I wish some people would either grow up or shut up. No other options are available

That goes for you too:~ Fred Nile, Alan Jones, Ray Hadley, John Laws, the entire 'Family First' political party, Clive Palmer, the entire US Republican party, Rupert Murdoch, Cardinal George Pell... you can take over from here, I'm sure

I probably won't be the only person on LiveJournal to post about the death of Chrissie Amphlett

One of the two most dangerous gigs I've ever attended was a Divinyls show at the old Dee Why Hotel... the crowd was well oiled & there was an air of barely-restrained violence in the place ~ something that she seemed to notice too & both encouraged & fed off it for her performance. The bouncers were kept busy that night

My strangest encounter with her was in the mid-Eighties, when I was a Teller for Westpac Bank in Manly & she came in one day to cash a cheque. At the time it was known in music circles that she & the guitarist from Divinyls were shacked up in Manly & deep into heroin, so it wasn't a stretch to guess what the money would be used for. I tried carefully to explain that she'd have to deposit the cheque into her account, then wait a few days for it to clear before she could draw on the funds. That's when I got this look from her that plainly said "I'm going ballistic in 5... 4... 3..." So I hurriedly added that on this occasion I was sure I could make an exception, stamped the cheque & handed over the cash, more prepared to face a dressing-down from the Bank Manager than be on the receiving end of that pocket rocket

Look out Heaven... Here comes a Wild One!!

A little rehearsal/jam session with the as-yet-unnamed band formed around the 'World's Longest Album Project'. A chance to stretch out on electric guitar for the first time in a while. Fun...

Work kept me hopping until about 5.30, when I finally got out of a client's home, having discussed almost everything except which of our range of products she actually wants. This one's a long haul

Most of the time, it's nice to know some things never change... But then there's Alan Jones & his inimitable, irritating, ignoble & inflammatory ignorance ~ this time on the Boston bombing

Years ago, when I was playing guitar in a studio owned by the drummer from the Ted Mulry Gang (Hi Herman!!), he played us a recording of the Troggs arguing among themselves about... well, just about everything. Kind of like Spinal Tap without the pictures:~

For my Reader... some news over the last month or so you might have missed

The Loved One & I were married on 10.11.12 ~ just so the date was easy to remember. Simple civil ceremony, minimum family attendants, no friends, less-than-desirable location, but that's another story. Family dinner, then drinks with some friends the following day. Two days in Mudgee as a mini 'Honeymoon'... pretty much all we felt like after the USA trip

Kindasorta employed as a Sales Manager for a business telecommunications company. Odd sequence of events ~ a couple of stilted interviews, a few sheets of product information, then a week of cold-calling while the telemarketing team is assembled & their script is written (with a little input from me), then meeting some of my sales reps today & training them, when I'm only fractionally ahead of them in product knowledge. As long as I stay that way, it should be fine, right?. Employment contract to be signed this Friday, then three unpaid weeks off over Christmas/New Year

Which I may spend working in a bottle shop, after encountering a former workmate in CBD Cellars today. Whether I'd end up bringing home any money from that job is an interesting question

And now... please take five to remember Dave Brubeck... he will be missed

Well, Melbourne... that's a start...
waitingman: (Mutant Enemy)
For years, Sydney has worn the shabby mantle & crown of Australia's most racist & violent city. We're not proud of that... at least, most of us aren't

But in keeping with the long-standing rivalry between us, Melbourne has staked its claim as the new hotbed of intolerance & thuggery, This incident, which has at least made it to a court, is only amplified by the events of earlier this month... which hasn't

It really shows that, in terms of human history... & certainly evolution, two hundred years isn't very long at all. White Australia is mainly descended from the poor, uneducated, unwanted flotsam that England had a surplus of... & all the inborn (inbred?) ugliness that came with it, obviously hasn't adapted to its warmer, less crowded, egalitarian environment yet

Has evolution not had enough time? Or are the Creationists right & we're made in god's image? If that's the case, I don't think much of that god...

I love my country... I really do

But I really can't stand a lot of the people living in it

Racism, xenophobia... dress it up in any fancy term you like, it's behaviour not worthy of a baboon, let alone any other semi-evolved simian. What the hell is to be done with 'people' like that??!!

Complete & Utter Bollocks

Aren't we lucky, here in the 'Clever Country' to have experts such as Alan & Bronwyn to tell us what to think???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Well... this is good news. At least it's a continuation of a start that should have begun a long time ago... if you follow...

What infuriates me about this... other than the mindless, ignorant gullibility of the listening public, is this indirect quote from Vile Kyle's insidiously evil sidekick "Jackie O" ~ "that she and Sandilands had moved on from the row over the Alison Stephenson comments and were looking forward to being back on-air this week"

So she & him have "moved on", have they... so really it's the rest of us who are acting irresponsibly by continuing to draw attention to their abhorrent behaviour??!!??

On a different note... including several sequences of repeated ones... we went to see this a few nights ago as part of the annual Sydney Festival & it was a greatly entertaining hour. Thank god for the invention of digital looping technology...

Australia... a dry land full of thirsty people.

In these days of constant debate, research, denial & recacitrance, this article/opinion piece caught my eye today &, despite the inevitable reader comments which all-too-quickly degenerate into the usual slanging match, I found it interesting food for thought, as I'd never considered Australia's problems this way... probably because I'm a city kid...

Okay. Look... I know this might be controversial for some of my Friends List, but really:~

Honestly... Do we really care about chasing after Michael Jackson's doctor, examining the minutiae of his private life & hauling it all before both the State Court &, more insidiously, the Court of Public Opinion??

Is this a legitimate case, or just more of the modern-time relentless search for somebody to blame for anything & everything??

Quite frankly ~ the guy was a fruitcake with no sense of reality. If you want to blame anyone, blame his parents. Or Berry Gordy.... or anyone else who was too sycophantic to give the poor sod a reality check. Seems to me the doctor was one of the last in line of too many people who couldn't or wouldn't say no to someone who had a twisted & artificially inflated sense of his own worth.

Who'll cop the blame when Charlie Sheen dies?? Like Michael, or Amy Winehouse, it's the next logical step in a career trajectory that's moving inexorably downwards.

Okay... well so much for updating frequently, but I've been boringly busy with a lot of stuff that doesn't make for fascinating reading if you're not me.

At least, nowhere near as fascinating as some of the things going on in the world today, according to these 'news stories'...

A couple of things though... we went walking in the Blue Mountains last weekend & have just about stopped aching enough to consider doing it again next weekend; we saw THOR in 3D again & enjoyed it at least as much as the first time; we also like the new X-Men film, critics be damned... & I turned .44 ~ the most powerful age in the world & could blow your head clean off ~ my bestest present was from my Long-Suffering partner... an Irish Bouzouki which I have long wanted & must now learn to play properly.

No personal news I might have could compare to what our northern State of Queensland is going through right now... & what it will go through in the next 48 hours.

The imminent arrival of Cyclone Yasi has generated all sorts of media reports, opinions & flights of fancy ~ including this... which, rather far-fetchedly imposes the Category 5 cyclone on other parts of the world, to show its size & potential for destruction. Pure Bad Science fiction, but of interest nonetheless.

Remember the floods in Queensland a couple of weeks ago?? Seems nobody wants to let the Government tax us for the rebuilding of essential infrastructure... & a peculiarly Australian kind of anarchy is on the rise... according to Ross Gittins of the Sydney Morning Herald anyway...

Compared to all that, the hot'n'humid weather in Sydney that turns my workplace into a sauna & me into a sweaty, ill-tempered wretch, is hardly worth mentioning.

What a year it's been... already!!

Ideas like this give me hope for a clever future...

The fact that it's being done in Australia is, in the larger picture, irrelevant, but I do like it when the so-called 'Clever Country' lives up to that name...

Is anyone else sick to death of criticism of ineptitude being labelled racism or a Western Conspiracy when the recipient of said criticism isn't Caucasian or Christian?

Fair enough, there have been many instances over the centuries, & the last one in particular, when WASPs have indeed played bully-boy, but that doesn't give the "oppressed minorities" a 'Get Out Of Jail Free' card when it comes to idiocy or unsatisfactory conduct, be it slapdash construction in Delhi, or street-racing in Lakemba...

It's far too easy to play the racism card in these days of apologism & hand-wringing guilt for past behaviour... but all that really does is perpetuate stereotypes, both of your race/religion & the WASP's, on both sides. There is no progress to be made in such a fashion. The simple, plain truth is this: Your race & religion don't make you an idiot... your idiotic behaviour does. If you want to participate in this new global culture, there are standards to be met & if you don't meet them, try harder. Respect is not simply given, it must be earned.

That goes for all of us.

If we're going to copy the USA & allow people like this complete waste of sperm & egg to run for public office, & then give his divisive, pig-ignorant, offensive-to-common-sense raving & drooling a wider audience in the name of 'News'... then I would like to adopt another USA policy ~ the (far-too-easy) right to bear arms & participate in a USA national pastime ~ the shooting of public 'officials'...

Why are 'Devout Christians' so filled with anger & hate? I mean, it's not like they're short of a quid...

Edit: Okay, he's been disenfranchised by the Liberal Party & "...doesn't understand why he's been replaced..."

And he doesn't think an atheist should be running the country. Oh the irony.
