Ahh, the vagaries of the entertainment industry...
At the Annandale Hotel this evening, for the first public showing of "The Films That Gave Daylan Music Grey Hairs" - owing to the computer failure of a fortnight ago. So, my foil & I settled into a vinyl couch at the front of the pub to enjoy the fruits.
The first of the two films came & went in a yellowy blur, occasionally disappearing entirely, due to a faulty LCD projector. It also came & went without our soundtrack... due to an influential sound editor with production ideas different to our own. Apparently he/she likes both kinds of music - country and western - as there was only one piece of music used & we didn't write it. We bore this in silent good grace & applauded at the end, as one should, all the while ruing the lost hours spent retrieving & resurrecting music that wound up on the proverbial cutting room floor. Ah well... that's showbiz!
We fared better with the second film, despite the continuing projector hassles. My foil's angular dissonances in 7/8 & my blatant TV cop show pastiche both worked well in the context.
Schmoozing in the vacuum-like atmosphere of the ante-bar afterwards, we got talking to the aspiring writer/producer/director of a TV show pilot about the trials & tribulations of a "Rock Chick" (TM) band in inner-city Sydney. Pitched as a kind of "Mix of the Rock Follies, Absolutely Fabulous, Spinal Tap" & another show I've forgotten, a further meeting will ensue. A 'Sweet & Sour' for the Noughties... or an unholy derivative mish-mash?? Only time will tell.
Now home for some crackers'n'hommous & a couple of Firefly episodes...
Forget about the working week.
