I don't know why the Afghanistan situation has made me so unhappy. It's not like there aren't plenty of other shitty things going on, with shitty governments & shitty people making shitty decisions & doing shitty things. Let's start at 'A'... or let's not, there isn't enough Journal space in the world to address all of it!!!

But it certainly hasn't taken long for the Taliban's charm offensive to become just plain offensive & every bit as hollow as the Western promises of the last two decades

As callused, scarred & blistered as I am from enduring the cynical marketing, lies, misuse & downright abuse the world serves up to me every single day, one way or the other, I suppose it's just the absolute scale of this inevitable failure & ensuing tragedy that has slipped a stiletto past my left 3rd & 4th ribs. The fact that this will soon become old news & be replaced by something else & forgotten about, only drives the blade deeper...
