I'm no rock star egomaniac, but I do get a thrill from performing for an audience, especially when I've had a hand in writing the material. My PGD comes from the aftermath of the physical & mental activity leading up to a gig - the rehearsals, logistics, planning, anticipation etc... Days & occasionally weeks of stuff to do & think about, then it's all over in a fraction of that time & suddenly there's nothing to do... there's this void in your spare time & your brain.
Also, 3 of my 4 current projects are fragmented by both physical & emotional distances between members. There's little in the way of pre or post-gig social bonding due to those circumstances, so in the wake of a performance lies a kind of lonely 'return-to-earth' for me. It never lasts long... usually only a day, or 2 at the most - as you say, there's always another gig opportunity somewhere... or at least a rehearsal. Especially with 4 projects on the go at different levels!!
