The colour work on those bathing boxes is fantastic. One set leaps out of my screen, the other manages some amazing atmosphere.
Are you just making it up as you go along, or taking lessons/inspiration from somewhere? I've been meaning to learn more about good photo-art for a while, so if you have sources to recommend I'd be curious?
And it's been too long since I went up to William Ricketts.
Honestly... just making it up as I go along ~ finding out what various PShop filters & applications do, then seeing how it looks & tinkering from there, hoping that a concept will take shape...
It's similar to the way I approach guitar & other instruments these days ~ noodling around 'til something interesting happens. Especially on unfamilar instruments I can create my own language/library of sounds without feeling the requirement to emulate exercises, set-pieces & the 'right' way to play them.
I'd read & seen pictures of the Ricketts Sanctuary before & have meant to get there long before last week. I did hope it would be quieter there - you could still hear every car on the Dandenong Rd outside... As evidenced by the 2 shots so far & others to come, the light was CRAP! & focus was hard to come by without a tripod. I'd love to get back there in summer. In the meantime, I'll see what atmospheric tricks I can use to make the shots 'interesting' if not pristine.
Subdued light filtering through the canopy and the tree ferns is what the wet side of the Dandenongs is all about, though - and it is very atmospheric when viewed with human eyes. It's a reminder that we have a truly remarkable light-level calibration facility.
But for the camera, slow shutter speeds and tripods sound like where it's at.
And I need your noodling skill. I always want to know How before I start tinkering, with the result that I tinker far too rarely...
Feel like posting a step-by-step breakdown some time for the curious?
