waitingman: (Orang-Utan)
The end of my 2nd week in the new job... only 3 to go until I surpass the last place that made me a financial offer I couldn't refuse, then rescinded it after a month. These guys are a larger company than the last one, seem better organised & are happy with my work after a fortnight. All good things - but their integrated e-mail, CRM & database system takes a bit of navigating, a few prayers to esoteric deities & some cross-fingered typing... at least, for now

The death of Elizabeth II seems to have stopped any other news happening in the world. The war in Ukraine is apparently in abeyance (I know it isn't... & that there's been another mass grave of executed civilians discovered outside one of the newly liberated cities) & even the mounting & long overdue lawsuits Trump is facing have been shunted way down the pages of my various news sources, in favour of stories about what prince A said to duchess B & how princess C did this to princess D because D did something to C, because she said something about prince A to duchess B... Tell me, WHY do we care about any of this??!!

Our weekend away in Narrabri, photographing the night skies amongst the radio telescopes, has been derailed due to flooding in the outback. Over dinner tonight, as we tried to figure out an alternative weekend itinerary, I wondered aloud to Long-Suffering Partner, how many of our outback excursions have been scuppered by rain? For such a supposedly dry, desert country, it certainly seems to rain a lot whenever we want to go somewhere out there!!!

I've probably posted this one before, but it sums up our outback experiences perfectly... out in the supposedly searing hot, inhospitable, treeless western desert, squelching around in 5-10cm of muddy water...
