waitingman: (Orang-Utan)
Nothing is ever simple... Is that just my life, or does everyone else think the same?

Did my 3 (@#$%!!!??!!!) measures, scaled, plotted & drew them, delivered them to the appropriate people, then headed to the local medical centre to see about this cough that won't 'ckoff. I even dug out my King Crimson face mask for the occasion... presciently as it turned out - Greater Sydney is back to masks & limited travel & gatherings for 5 days while they try to figure out how 2 people became infected & how many they passed it on to, unknowingly, before they got tested...

Anyway, I checked into the medical centre, went up to the counter & asked to see a doctor. No problem, they said. Did I have a cough, or other symptoms? Well, funny you should ask, it's why I'm here. You see I... Did I have a current negative Covid test? Well no, you see I... We can't see anyone who has any symptoms without a negative test. Thank you

Fortunately, I knew of a test centre about 20 minutes drive away, that always looked forlorn & lonely whenever I drove past, so decided to go & liven up their day. There was no queue of cars, so straight up to the lady in the PPE, filled in the form & she laughed at my King Crimson mask before I took it off & she shoved a stick down my throat & another up my nose - Man, that tickles!! While I overcame the urge to sneeze, PPE lady said the results would be available in 24 hours - by text if negative, or a phone call if... It's highly unlikely I've caught what the Betoota Advocate calls the 'Spicy Cough', but try telling the staff at the medical centre that... if you can get a word in!

So, was dealing with the health system always this difficult? Has Covid made it more complicated, or was it ever thus?

Here's a bird's eye view of Canberra, from a hill above the National Arboretum, which is recovering nicely from being roasted & singed by bushfires a few years back...
