2nd Hand Rows... & Rows... & Rows
Jul. 5th, 2020 08:50 amIt is a truth, universally acknowledged, that when you go looking through the books, CDs & DVDs at a Lifeline charity sale... or even just at a local 2nd hand store, you will find:
- At least 5 copies of all Adele's albums
- Enough copies of 'The Da Vinci Code' to make a decent bonfire. With enough copies of 'The Girl With...' Larsson novels to fire up again tomorrow night
- VHS, DVD & Blu-ray copies of 'Dances With Wolves'
- Cookbooks by forgotten celebrity chefs
- Pretty much every Fleetwood Mac album since 'Rumors'... including about 10 copies of 'Tango In The Night'
- A bunch of those classical music compilations marketed as 'Relaxing', or ideal for your new-born's mental development, either in utero, or as they sleep
- A full set of André Rieu CDs, DVDs & probably a souvenir photo book to boot
- That there are far more books devoted to the cult of 'Star Wars', on topics you would never expect, or imagine, than you would think possible... All in 'mint' condition, indicating that whoever was given them, never read them...
- Jigsaw puzzles that, despite the organiser's insistence that there are no pieces missing... will have missing pieces
- Every blatant film, TV, or cultural tie-in version of Monopoly &/or Trivial Pursuit... again, unopened & unused
- Me...
Yesterday's haul was minuscule, compared to other times we've descended on the Lifeline Book Fair. We cam away with just one book - on the artwork for the Watchmen movie, DVDs of the BBC series Planet Earth & the re-re-re-mastered on Blu-Ray '2001 A Space Odyssey' & CDs by Nitin Sawhney, Richard Thompson, Laura Marling & Spearhead
Will we be at the next one in September? You bet we will... Somewhere, amongst all the stuff above, will be the books we want, the CDs I'm curious about, or the movies we always meant to get 'round to...
