Home... after completing the City To Surf in just under three hours at a sometimes brisk, sometimes... less so, walking pace. There were about 85,000 obstacles on the way ~ some elderly, some toddlers, some in strollers & the odd double pram, some who saw it as an extension of their leisurely Sunday power-walk to the café & were more interested in texting & talking than walking or, god forbid, running.
And then there was the platoon of Imperial Stormtroopers...
My favourites though, were the less-than-svelte team wearing shirts re-naming the race as the 'City to Sheaf', who set a gentle pace right up to the doors of the Golden Sheaf pub in Double Bay ~ about three kilometres from the start ~ & then all disappeared inside the pub, not to be encountered again further along the track. I know which team I'll be joining next year!!
Next year??!! What the hell's wrong with me??
Surprisingly, not much. Sure, a little footsore & there may be a little chafing in sensitive areas, but on the whole we came through okay, with only one small blister to show for it.
Having completed the course in three hours, it then took another hour in the bus queue to leave Bondi Beach, though everything flowed smoothly once at the train station. Public Transport was free for all entrants, so we'd left OBluV8 parked at our nearest train station & joined the throng.
My only real complaint of the day? When will the shouting of that stupid "AussieAussieAussie!! OiOiOi!!" chant be declared a criminal offence?!! Is it really the best we can do??
Now... the couch beckons. Oh de agony of de feet!
