... But The Little Girls Understand...
May. 9th, 2010 12:28 pmAnd now for something completely different...
After seeing the Cult blow the roof off the Big Top on Thursday night with blisteringly loud guitars & drums, we went to see John Mayer last night who, along with his 7 piece band, played rather more quietly. Which was unfortunate really, as it meant that the thousands!!!!! of screaming girls & women drowned out parts of the show.
And it was a surprisingly (for me anyway) good show. A great backing band featuring an ex Pretenders guitarist & a drummer last seen with Steely Dan, along with John's habit of throwing in lyrics & melodies from other people's songs ~ 'People Get Ready', 'Wrapped Around Your Finger' & 'Dreams'(both the Fleetwood Mac & Sam Cooke songs) & his version of Bob Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice, It's Alright' (which none of the screaming horde recognised), ensured my interest through the night.
As did the opening song, which I'd seen-but-not-heard on daytime TV at Debtor's Prison #2 a few months ago & had wondered how what he was doing to his guitar would sound. Wonder no more...
