The Creative Cringe
Aug. 12th, 2008 09:21 amFunny how it always requires someone outside the Jerk Circle to point out the bleeding obvious... that the Australian music industry/empire is over-fond of its new clothes, which the sycophantic press tells us look & sound great! Enter Everett True, UK music writer for The Guardian:
"Everyone is treated equally, which means no knocking anyone back, however great the temptation (that'll be why Australian rock is best known to the outside world for such musical abominations as Silverchair, The Vines and Savage Garden)."
Queensland's music press has hit back, with one editor of a local music newspaper dismissing the British music guru as "irrelevent".
Myself, I'm actually a bit of a Silverchair fan, though I certainly wouldn't declare them the best we have to offer the world stage... your nominations please... but The Vines??!! I've heard better singing from an angle-grinder... & more interesting melodies for that matter.
And there's something so predictable about the QLD music press getting its nose out of joint & throwing the dictionary out with the diatribe ~ 'irrelevent' indeed.
