O.M.F.G!! C.P.U. D.O.A. R.I.P? S.O.B!!!
Jul. 22nd, 2008 01:21 pmThe joy of computers.
Saturday night, following the posting of my rant against WYD road closures, I shut down/turned off the PC at home & went to bed.
Sunday morning, it occurred to me I should look at the job ad I'd e-mailed myself from work & spend some time doing an application. So, out to the computer room & hit the button...
After about 45 seconds I noticed the monitor wasn't showing anything, my flashy-light mouse wasn't flashing &... yep the keyboard was dead too. Lights on in the CPU, but nobody home.
Tried all the usual things, unplugging/replugging, turning on & off, swearing, waiting, trying it all again with more swearing, then phone calls to anyone I know who's better with computers than me ~ which is just about everyone. Could be a virus... could be the motherboard... could be the hard disk. None of which is good news right now in these impecunious times.
My hopes for future home computing now rest with the Alpha-est of Males, whose father, he assures me, is a whiz if ever there was & should be able to do something for me at the right price.
All I really need from the hard disk are my photos & the novel... & the original song recordings... & my CV... the iTunes library would be nice too... In fact, I REALLY NEED EVERYTHING ON THERE!!!!!!
Fingers, lines & wires crossed.
