From today's SMH

A British woman got a shock last week when she found a baby hedgehog among the clothes she was removing from her washing machine at her home near Chichester, West Sussex . The eight-week-old female hoglet survived a spin in a 40-degree washing and drying cycle, earning herself the name Lucky. "The hoglet was at the stage where she would be leaving mum," Penny Cooper, the manager of Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital, told BBC UK. "She had wandered through the back door of a house, past a dog sleeping in a basket, and decided this pile of clothes would be a warm nest.

"We monitored her to make sure there was no chest infection and none of the water had gone into her lungs," Ms Cooper said. "She has been eating ravenously and is remarkably clean."
