Identity Crisis
Dec. 21st, 2005 03:05 pmWell, it's been a week or so, but the Cronulla riots are still causing ripples.
In a quiet moment here at work, I was trawling the Sydney Morning Herald website, as is my wont & came across this article... http://blogs.smh.com.au/thecontrarian/archives/2005/12/is_islam_the_pr.html
Having read that & thinking it fair enough & a successful trip through the minefield of issues, I read ( this comment ).
And was struck by how historically & currently accurate it is...
I like to think of myself as an enlightened citizen of a multi-racial & cultural country/world (the only thing I'm prejudiced against is wilful stupidity & ignorance), but it seems that the current numbers & the weight of history are against me. I'm not going to rail against past & present policies, nor be an apologist for WASPish mistakes of the last 2 millennia, but at the same time, I'm not feeling very proud of my race record.
