Harvest Time?
Sep. 1st, 2005 12:08 pmThe things that can happen quickly when you least expect them to...
Tuesday - spent the afternoon cruising the employment websites & sending off a barrage of applications online. Within 15 minutes both my mobile & house phones are ringing with about 4 desperate recruitment consultants wanting to drag me into their offices. If I wasn't so well-informed about the cut-throat nature of the recruitment industry, I'd be flattered.
So, Wednesday - spent the majority of the day traipsing around the city from one bland office to the next, hawking my life & work history-to-date to a variety of parties ranging from rabidly to mildly interested. One of whom I was rabidly interested in too... but first thing's first - get a job!! Time off in the middle of the day to catch up with a near & dear one, then off to North Sydney for more of the same.
Today - the phone's ringing again & the real interviews with actual employers are starting to line up. So now, I'm finding it difficult to do very much - as my fingers, legs & eyes are crossed for a continuation of what looks unfamiliarly like good fortune... knock on wood... ouch!
Leisure time has included the Trivia Night at Mona Vale - we won... again... oh the ennui. And last night I saw Rick Wakeman at the State Theatre. The show was balanced between stripped back piano & occasional vocal (not him!!) versions of his overblown & ever-so-slightly pompous prog-rock works from the 70s, which I still enjoyed... & his hilarious ego-deflating on & off-the-road stories when he was touring said works with orchestras, choirs, ice rinks & a Wurlitzer organ that had trouble getting... & staying up. Fun times.
